Week 2 Notes, Homework, and Videos
WEEK 2 NOTES IN ADDITION TO THE WEEK 1 NOTES:
NOTE 1: LET'S GO CAN BE WORKED INSIDE WITH LEASH DRAGGING.
NOTE 2: ALL THE COMMANDS EXCEPT DOWN FROM FURTHER UP AND LEAVE IT HAVE GOALS TO BE MET.
NOTE 3: SITS WHILE WALKING. NOW HAS A FOOD REWARD EVERY 4TH TIME.
NOTE 4: WHEN WORKING ON DURATION GOALS FOR STILL SIT, STAY AND CIRCLE SIT STAY, THE MOST IMPORTANT GOAL IS 4 IN A ROW. THE TIME IS SECONDARY.
NOTE 5: WHEN WORKING ON MULTIPLE COMMANDS AT ONCE, YOU ONLY NEED TO FOCUS YOUR GOAL ON ONE OF THE COMMANDS. THEN THE NEXT DAY, EITHER ROTATE THE COMMAND YOU ARE FOCUSING ON DO ANOTHER SESSION WITH ANOTHER COMMAND BE THE FOCUS.
NOTE 6: COMMANDS CAN BE RELEASED BY THE MARKER WORD "YES" OR BY PRACTICING ANOTHER COMMAND.
NOTE 7: ATTACHED BELOW IS A WORKSHEET YOU CAN USE TO KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING WITH RIGATONI.
RELAXATION AND CHILL EXERCISES:
NOTE: Rotate "Sit on the Dog" and "Long Place". For instance, Monday "Sit on the Dog", Tuesday, "Long Place", Wednesday "Sit on the Dog", and so on.
- Sit on The Dog 30+ minutes Goal: To get your dog to lay down on their own steam in five minutes or under and get them used to learning how to chill next to you for a period of time. Week 2 Change: If a more distracting insiide or in the yard opportunity presents itself,, start doing these in mid level distractions (around family members, during dinner, and weather permitting outside in the yard or on the porch.
- Long Place 30 minutes Goal: To practice for a half hour long place with the leash dropped and the owner sitting further away.. Week 2 Changes: Practicing for 30 minutes, dropping the leash, and sitting further away from him.
- Relax for Exam 15 minutes Goal: To keep practicing this as long as you are able before you puppy becomes too big to do this easily.
OBEDIENCE EXERCISES:
NOTE: You can include "send to place" and "circle place" with your luring session exercises.
- Luring Exercises 5-10 minutes a session Goal: For auto "sits", "downs", "leave it", attention to name, and "let's go", you want to get 3 sets of 4 in a row. For circle sit stays four in a row for 30 seconds is your goal. Week 2 Changes: Sits are now being trained as auto for every time you stop and being rewarded only at the 4th repetition. Downs are being lured from futher up. "Leave It" the food reward is offered in open hand. Attention to name is being said while standing and after a command where your dog ends up near you. "Let's Go" is now with leash dragging.
- Send to Place 5-10 minutes Goal: To get three sets of four in a row (good performance). Week 2 Change: Your puppy is being sent from further away.
- Cicle Place 5 -7 minutes Goal: To get four in a row for one minute with the leash dropped. Week 2 Change: The leash is now dropped and the circles are wider.
